The mission of the New England Chapter of SFPE is to advance the art and science of fire protection engineering and its allied fields, to maintain a high ethical standard among its members, and to foster fire protection engineering education. Over the past 40 years of Chapter activity, these objectives have been met in many ways. The Chapter has provided a respectable service to professionals and students in the New England fire protection community. Although the accomplishments are too numerous to list here, a few are highlighted.
Through our professional practice committee, the Chapter has helped several engineers receive their Professional Engineering License in Fire Protection Engineering. This committee also advocates the development and application of engineering principles through participation in code and standard development, preparation of NCEE examination problems, and through active promotion of professional engineers. The committee keeps abreast of legislation on fire safety and engineering and new research findings, and disseminates this information to the membership.
The Chapter has donated funds to a number of educational, research, and charity organizations, such as Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the Burn Institute of the Shriners' Hospital for Crippled Children in Boston. These grants and awards were possible, thanks mainly to the active participation of Chapter membership.
