As part of this event, WPI students will present a snapshot of ongoing research projects in the FPE department.  Research topics include wildland fire behavior and vegetation interactions, smoldering combustion,  fire testing and measurement, calorimetry uncertainty, and ignition under turbulent conditions.

Registration includes dinner and one drink ticket.

The schedule for the evening is as follows:

4:00 - 5:00 PM: Registration & Networking

5:00 PM - 6:00 PM: Dinner and WPI student presentations

WPI Fire Protection Engineering Speaker Bios:

Sofia Quattrini is an MS student. Her undergraduate Major Qualifying Project (MQP) focused on the design and manufacture of an in-house heat flux gauge. Sofia currently serves as President of the WPI SFPE Chapter and Deputy Chief of WPI Emergency Medical Services.

Galen Miller is a MS Thesis Student. His research focuses on smoldering ignition and propagation in wood fuels. Galen currently serves as the Vice President of the SFPE WPI Chapter.

Navya Muniraj is a Ph.D. candidate. Her research investigates fire–wind coupling and vegetation–fire interaction.  Her work aims to improve how wildland fire models represent vegetation drag and wind-driven fire behavior.

Hannah Murray is a Ph.D. candidate and a licensed Fire Protection Engineer. Her research interests encompass explosion protection engineering, combustible dust hazards, and the ignition behavior of flammable and combustible liquids, with her current research focusing on the ignition characteristics of weathered and emulsified crude oils.

Ravi Prabhakar Kondapalli is a PhD candidate. His research focuses on fire experiments that support the development and validation of next-generation coupled fire models in FDS.

Rayna Vreeland is a PhD candidate. Her research is focused on conducting robust uncertainty quantification for indirect measurements that rely on gas measurements in the areas of fire toxicity and oxygen combustion calorimetry.
