Fundamentals of Fire Investigation – The Relationship Between Compartment Fire Dynamics and Resulting Post-Incident Damage Patterns

Presented by:  Andrew Cox - PE, CFI, Travelers

Fire protection engineers generally have a good foundational understanding of principles of fire dynamics, but some may not have the specific training and/or the practical experience to accurately relate post-incident damage patterns back to the fire behaviors that created them.  This program will offer a basic introduction to important relationships between fire behaviors and resulting damage patterns observed by investigators.  Theoretical discussion of damage pattern development will be supplemented with large-scale fire test results from fire investigation research studies completed at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Fire Research Laboratory (FRL).
