Abstract:
The 2008 edition of NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, has been out for some time. This presentation will highlight the major changes made since the 2003 edition and will discuss two issues that will influence the next edition: controlling fires involving nonmetallic Intermediate Bulk Containers and the Buncefield UK tank farm fire. The presentation will finish with an overview of some 'frequently asked questions' related to NFPA 30.

Bio:
Robert P. Benedetti is NFPA's Principal Flammable Liquids Engineer. Mr. Benedetti joined NFPA in 1974 as staff liaison to NFPA's hazardous chemicals and related projects. In 1986, he was promoted to his present position, where he is responsible for NFPA's flammable liquids field service project and is staff liaison to the NFPA technical committees that deal with flammable and combustible liquids issues. He represents NFPA on technical committees of a number of organizations, including the API Safety and Fire Protection Subcommittee and several Standards Technical Panels of Underwriters Laboratories. He is an active member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, and the Electrostatics Society of America.
