Firefighting 101 with MA Department of Fire Services
Ever wondered what it would be like to be a firefighter? Live out your childhood (or adult) dream for a day and participate in SFPE-NEC's field trip to Massachusetts Department of Fire Services - Massachusetts Firefighting Academy!
This is not a drill! You will listen to a safety briefing and then gear up in full equipment and practice hose advancement, search and rescue, and a live fire event. The group will be split in two with one session as a classroom activity/seminar learning about fire history and the fire service and the other session as live firefighting training.
This is an excellent opportunity to better understand the AHJs you interact with on a daily basis. Work with MFA instructors as they teach you critical firefighting skills. This opportunity will give you a unique perspective into the operations on the fire ground and will help you understand some of the challenges faced by your local firefighters. The Massachusetts Firefighting Academy is not traditionally open to non-fire service personnel. The opportunity to attend this training is rare and we are limited to 50 people in this program. Please sign up early to guarantee your spot. Members will have a few extra days to register before non-members.
Although the cost of the program is higher than traditional dinner meetings, SFPE-NEC is subsidizing some of the registration cost.
The basic program agenda is the following:
7:00AM-7:45AM - Registration and Breakfast (Cafe available for your own purchase)
8:00-9:00 - Introduction and Mandatory Safety Briefing
9:00AM-12:00PM - Group 1 - Live Firefighting Evolutions; Group 2 - Fire Service Presentations
