Up In Flames – An Examination of Exterior Façade Fires in High-Rise Buildings
Moderated by Brian Kuhn Jr., P.E., Simpson Gumpertz & Heger
Following the tragedy at the Grenfell Tower in London, the fire protection industry has taken a closer look at exterior wall construction and fire protection. Mr. Kuhn will moderate a discussion about exterior fires experienced around the world, the building science of exterior walls, and the interface of building science, aesthetics, and fire safety in these high-rise buildings. This will be an open discussion so we welcome your questions, comments, and expertise.
Mr. Kuhn is a licensed fire protection engineer at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH). SGH specializes in structural engineering, building enclosures, materials science, and fire life safety. Mr. Kuhn consults with designers, owners, and contractors on a variety of fire and life safety building performance issues. His primary interests and capabilities are in the fields of computer fire and egress modeling, performance-based design, passive fire protection and fire and life safety codes consulting. He currently serves on the SFPE-NEC Board as Second Vice President.
